What is Boarding?

Boarding is simply watching your dog for the day, overnight or multiple nights/weeks while you're away at work or on vacation.

And of course, the quality of a boarding service may vary greatly between providers!

We offer 3 Boarding services:

  • Day Care,

  • (Basic / Overnight) Boarding, and

  • Board & Train

(Basic / Overnight) Boarding:

This service is where we simply watch and care for your dog(s) for a single night, multiple nights, or weeks in a Trainer's home, not a sterile cage at the Vet's.  Our highest priority is your dog's safety.  Cost is $50/night and $150/night for holidays (including 1 day before and after, i.e 7/3, 7/4 & 7/5 are holiday rates).

Boarding FAQs:

Q - Where do you watch our dog?

A - Unless you have a mega million dollar mansion or beach front property, your dog will stay with us in a Granada Hills residence at one of our Trainer's home. On some rare occasions, where you have a nicer home, and/or pay us an exclusive fee then we can stay at your home and watch your dog there.

Q - What is the cost?

A - Cost is $50/night and/or $150/night for holidays (including 1 day before and after, i.e 7/3, 7/4 & 7/5 are holiday rates).

Q - What hours do you do this?

A - 24/7.  However humans care for your dog and we like to keep drop off and pick up times during reasonable hours such as 8am - 8pm.  We do know what it's like to leave your furry family member behind, so in some cases we will allow drop offs of pick ups outside of those hours.

Q - Do you only board certain dogs?

A - No.  We started out training Golden Retrievers, thus our name, but we work with every type of dog regardless of: Age, Breed, Gender, Size and level of training (or not).

Q - What happens during the stay?

A - Pretty much the same thing your dog does on a normal day at your home.  After an initial evaluation, the dog will typically have free and full range of the house and backyard so he/she can nap, explore, nap, play, nap, etc.  Your dog will be cared for as if he/she is our own, which includes lots of loving.  Let us know if you allow your dog on your furniture (couch / bed) at home and we will try to replicate that here. It's not unusual for our Trainer to have 5-7 dogs on the bed at night.

Q - Are the dogs crated?

A - Initially, we may crate your dog so we can see how he/she will react or behave around our other dogs.  Our highest priority is your dog's safety.  If we feel there may be a flight risk, or safety concern, we will secure your dog in a large crate, or inside the home.  We also, almost always crate every dog at feeding times to prevent any food arguments.  Sometimes over the night we may crate dogs to keep them safe.  The crates are typically in the Trainer's master bedroom.  We use metal wire crates, so the dog can see, hear and smell whats going on and not feel too isolated.

If a dog we feel a dog is being stressed by being around the other dogs, afraid, aggressive, etc., we may also crate dogs to give them an opportunity to relax and feel safe.

Q - What else should I know?

A - We don't allow our human customers in the home.  We try to maintain a balance between a home life and a home based business.

A - The first 15-30 minutes of the stay we are 100% focused on your dog.  We allow him/her to explore the home and sniff and explore a lot.  We are looking for indications of marking, chewing, excessive shyness and/or aggression. After the initial supervision, then we will slowly introduce him/her to the other dogs (the numbers change daily but we typically have 3-5 dogs in our care at any one time).

Q - What should I send with my dog?

A - We try to make it easy on you. We have plenty of large crates here if they are needed.  We also have plenty of stainless steel bowls for water and food.  If your dog has a special pillow or blanket he/she 'can't live without', yes, you can include that, but most of the time it really does not effect the dog's stay. You can pack a few toys if you like, but we have plenty of balls and chew toys for everyone.  If you do pack a toy, understand that the other dogs may love it too, and it may not come home in one piece, if at all.

A - By all means, send enough food for your dog.  Dogs are a bit unusual that they can chew things in a yard and it not effect them, but if you switch foods on them overnight, it can upset their digestive system causing vomiting and/or diarrhea, neither of which is fun for the dog, or us watching him/her. We'd suggest you send a small bag of food (ziplock bags work good for that). You can portion it out into smaller bags for each day/meal if you'd like, but not necessary.  We do encourage you to be mindful and not to send a 50lb bag if your dog's stay is only a few nights. That can become a logistics problem managing if everyone does that.

Q - Will there be updates?

A - We understand what it is like to leave your most precious family behind, and then with a "stranger", so we try to make the stay as stress free as possible.  We will typically send a few pictures through out the stay.  Just be aware that we may also be training or working on other personal tasks, so we can't be taking pictures every hour.  Your dog won't look much different while your away.  We try to be proactive and drop you a quick text to let you know all is well.

Q - When and how do I pay?

A - We are a bit old fashioned here and ONLY accept CASH.  You can pay when you drop off your dog, pay when you pick your dog up, or some at the start of the stay and some at the end, which ever is most convenient for you. We do require payment in full by the end of the stay or we will not release your dog.  We do not bill you or allow people to come by at a later time to make a payment.  While you're picking up your dog, to save time for everyone, lets take the time to settle up in full then.  If needed there are ATMs very close by where you can get cash 24/7.

Day Care:

This is a low cost service where we simply watch and care for your dog(s) during the day.  The dog is dropped off then picked up the same day.  Cost is $40/day.

Board & Train:

Board & Train is a 'done for you' service we provide.  Very similar to our Boarding service, we also include private training while your dog is in our care.  For this service we need multiple nights or weeks to truly accomplish the goals of a better, well trained dog.  It's difficult to teach a dog many skills with limited time with him/her.  We access the needs and level of training for the dog, then provide 2-3 (quantity), 20-30 minute sessions with your dog working on the most needed skills.  And when you pick up the dog, we will show you what you need to do for the dog to perform the skills.  The cost for this service is $150/day or $1,050 per week.
